It is estimated that there are 2,500 to 3,000 species of fish in the Amazon. The figures for Peru are variable, but the most conservative suggest that they could reach 1,200 species. Fish constitute a commercial and subsistence resource of great importance for Amazonian communities. They play a vital role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems. Not only do they include food for the Amazonian population and many species of birds, mammals, and reptiles, they are also extremely important in the seed dispersal processes at the time when water floods the forests.

We take you to explore the deep dark waters of the Amazon River, Nanay River, Momon River, and we can even go all the way to Brazil if that is what interests you.
